PIC: Lwanda Mbanjwa of Golden Arrows (jumping) and Ayabulela Konqobe of Chippa United
The fixtures are out for the Last 32 of the Nedbank Cup with plenty of tasty ties to look forward to. Here is a reminder of where and when they will be played.
PRETORIA CALLIES VS MARUMO GALLANTS
Friday, January 24, 19:00 – Lucas Moripe Stadium
A clash between two teams who were in the second-tier last season to kick us off. The 2021 Nedbank Cup winners Gallants have since become a topflight team after they purchased the status of Moroka Swallows.
LAMONTVILLE GOLDEN ARROWS VS CHIPPA UNITED
Saturday, January 25, 15:00 – Mpumalanga Stadium
An all-Premiership clash between two sides struggling for form of late, but Golden Arrows will fancy their chances on home soil. This is a first ever cup meeting between the two sides.
UMVOTI VS BAROKA FC
Saturday, January 25, 15:00 – Harry Gwala Stadium
Third-tier Umvoti take on the ‘original’ giant-killers in Baroka FC, who are now seeking to avoid a shock exit themselves. Umvoti make a second appearance in the Nedbank Cup following their loss to third-tier TS Galaxy in the Last 32 in 2019. Galaxy went on to lift the trophy …
VENDA FC VS CAPE TOWN SPURS
Saturday, January 25, 15:00 – Thohoyandou Stadium
These two Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) sides clash for the second time this season, with spurs having managed a 1-0 win on home soil in August. But they are not good travelers and have not won outright away this season (D4 L6). That being said, they beat Black Leopards on penalties at the same venue in the preliminary round.
LERUMO LIONS VS DURBAN CITY
Saturday, January 25, 15:00 – Olympia Park
Third-tier Lions go up against Durban City (formerly Maritzburg United) from the MFC with high hopes of making a name for themselves in this year’s competition. They have big ambitions, and there is no better stage to show their potential than the Nedbank Cup.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS VS SIBANYE GOLDEN STARS
Saturday, January 25, 18:00 – Loftus Versfeld Stadium
A massive David vs Goliath clash as Sundowns host their third-tier opponents. Sundowns have won all 20 previous ties against lower league teams in the Nedbank Cup, scoring 75 goals and conceding only five. This would arguably be the biggest shock in the competition’s history were Golden Stars to pull it off.
RICHARDS BAY VS ORLANDO PIRATES
Sunday, January 26, 15:00 – King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium
Pirates are in the best form the club has shown arguably since their last league title in the 2011/12 season. Richards Bay are battling at the bottom of the topflight table. Only one winner, right? Except in the last 15 months the KwaZulu-Natal side have dumped Pirates out of the Carling Knockout and beaten them (away) in the league.
MPHENI HOME DEFENDERS VS HUNGRY LIONS
Sunday, January 26, 15:00 – Thohoyandou Stadium
Third-tier Home defenders return to the Nedbank Cup after their debut in 2023 when they made the Last 16, before losing to Chippa United. Lions have not won in Limpopo since a November 2023 victory over Venda FC in the MFC.
POLOKWANE CITY VS THE BEES
Sunday, January 26, 15:00 – Old Peter Mokaba Stadium
Polokwane City are having a dream season in the topflight and will be overwhelming favourites against third-tier The Bees, who will hope to provide a sting in the tail. City have lost at home only once since March 2024 (W6 D6), a 3-2 reversal against Marumo Gallants in the Carling Knockout.
KAIZER CHIEFS VS FREE AGENTS FC
Sunday, January 26, 18:00 – FNB Stadium
Chiefs have blown hot and cold this season, but should have too much firepower for third-tier Gauteng rivals Free Agents. That being said, no team has been knocked out of the Nedbank Cup more often by lower league opponents than Chiefs. They have exited seven times in 17 years at the hands of teams from outside the topflight.
ROYAL AM VS MILFORD FC
Monday, January 27, 19:00 – Harry Gwala Stadium
Second-tier Milford FC knocked Chiefs out of the Last 32 in 2024 and will hope for a repeat performance against Royal AM, who play a competitive fixture for the first time since December 29. Milford are arguably in better shape than 2024 and sit third in the MFC table, pushing for promotion to the topflight.
SEKHUKHUNE UNITED VS CAPE TOWN CITY
Monday, January 27, 19:00 – Old Peter Mokaba Stadium
A battle between two form teams, though Sekhukhune did lose at Kaizer Chiefs on the weekend. City have already knocked them out of one cup competition this year when they met in the MTN8 quarterfinals and the latter won 1-0 in Polokwane.
AMAZULU VS MIGHTY EAGLES
Tuesday, January 28, 19:00 – King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium
AmaZulu will be heavy favourites for this one, but have come untuck against lower league opponents four times before, most recently in 2023 when they fell in the Last 16 to Dondol Stars. Eastern Cape side Mighty Eagles are on debut in the Nedbank Cup.
STELLENBOSCH FC VS KRUGER UNITED
Tuesday, January 28, 19:00 – Danie Craven Stadium
Stellenbosch have been semi-finalists in the Nedbank Cup in the last two editions, and will be desperate to go one better. Second-tier Kruger United are in debut and have travelled pretty well this season, and have a single loss in their previous six road trips (W3 D2).
MAGESI FS VS SUPERSPORT UNITED
Tuesday, January 28, 19:00 – Old Peter Mokaba Stadium
Magesi are winless in seven matches (D1 L6) since they lifted the Carling Knockout trophy in November with a shock 2-1 victory over Sundowns. They come up against a SuperSport team that has been out of sorts this season and lost their last two matches. SuperSport won 1-0 at home when these teams met in December.
TS GALAXY VS CR VASCO DA GAMA
Wednesday, January 29, 19:00 – Mbombela Stadium
The 2019 Nedbank Cup winners Galaxy are unbeaten in eight games (W3 D5), with this fixture the start of a run of six home games in a row in all competitions. Cape Town club Vasco are now in the third-tier but were once a topflight side and made the Nedbank Cup semifinals in 2015.
